Global Navigation and Positioning Community Predicts Strong Market Growth

Research Finds 22% of Manufacturers Forecast Growth to Exceed 200%

NEWTON, Mass., September 28, 2006 – GPS World, the premier global media brand dedicated to global navigation and positioning technologies, today unveiled a comprehensive research report on GPS and related technologies at its annual Leadership Dinner and State of the Industry Panel Discussion in Fort Worth, Texas.

An in-depth research study from Ventana Research revealed that 50% of manufacturers and purchasers are projecting steady market growth over the next few years.  According to the report, "Trends and Strategies for Location Intelligence Technology," half of purchasers and manufacturers surveyed predicted up to 50% market growth over the next three years, while 22% of manufacturers expect an increase of over 200%.

Commissioned by GPS World, Ventana Research examined trends, developments, opportunities, and overall issues across 10 industries including Survey & Mapping, Military & Government, Agriculture & Natural Resources, Consumer Products, Avionics & Transportation, Utilities & Telecommunications, Location-Based Services, System Design & Test, Distributors & Resellers, and OEM, Software and Services.

"The demand for GPS and related technology is growing significantly and enabling a new wave of market opportunity" said Mark Smith, CEO & EVP Research at Ventana Research. "Our research findings from over 1,100 manufacturers and purchasers provide the critical insight on growth markets, technology drivers and trends that will shape the industry going forward."

The research examined the most important trends among buyers and sellers, with 35% of respondents ranking improved precision of readily available GPS and related technology as the top trend followed by consumer and business demand and adoption.

When ranking the importance of GPS applications, mapping topped the list (49%) followed by asset tracking (38%), surveying (36%), and location-based services (35%).

As GPS and related technology continue to advance to meet market demands and growth, industry professionals are becoming increasingly concerned with cost, integration, and interoperability.  The survey reported that 73% of respondents rated the cost of implementing the technology as their top or second most important concern.

In response to industry growth, emerging opportunities, and demands of the purchasing audience and leaders, GPS World is continually expanding its editorial platform, enhancing information services, and mapping its interactive media to the market, including its web site and suite of specialized e-mail newsletters.  GPS World's blended media platform has advanced beyond the monthly print publication and is the industry's only searchable and application-specific knowledge base of GPS and related technologies that helps global navigation and positioning professionals stay abreast of market trends, technology developments, and new business opportunities.
